Infant Exam

During this basic exam, parents will learn the proper feeding habits and basic dental hygiene for their baby or infant child and how to specifically address the dental needs that babies and infants have.

Preventive Care

Preventive care consists of routine cleanings that occur six months, regular x-rays to assess any potential damage, and regular fluoride cleansings along with the application of sealant to prevent tooth decay.

Fluoride

Here at Sebastian Smiles, we’ve researched the proper amount of fluoride that is necessary for a child’s teeth and whether or not supplemental fluoride is recommended or not.

Sealant

Sealant is a protective coating that is applied to the chewing surface of the primary and permanent molars. On those molars, there are deep grooves that are hard to reach with a regular toothbrush. This allows bacteria to flourish and this causes decay. With sealant, those grooves are barricaded which prevents bacteria from getting in and causing decay.

X-rays

Using x-ray technology that has been specifically designed to put out less radiation, we are able to look inside your child’s teeth to uncover any potential damage that would have otherwise been invisible.

Procedures

General procedures at Sebastian Smiles include the filling of cavities, nerve treatments, placing crowns and space maintainers, and tooth extractions.

Sedation

Every child is different, and that means that some children may need one type of sedation, while another may need something a bit different. Nitrous oxide is a very mild form of sedation that lessens anxiety and fear. We also provide Conscious Sedation – a more complex sedation that reduces more extreme anxiety and fear while your child remains conscious – along with deep sedation. All sedatives are administered by a board certified pediatric anesthesiologist.

Age One Dental Visit

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry advises that a child’s first checkup should be by the age of one. During this visit, we will check to see if there any cavities, show you how to care for your child’s mouth properly, and inform you about your child’s developmental milestones along with discussing the importance of proper oral hygiene.

Treating Special Needs Children

At Sebastian Smiles, we understand that every child is different and not every method works for every child. We are trained to work with special needs children on performing cleanings and other dental procedures and we will do so in a way that is comfortable and safe for your child.

Fillings

A filling is used to seal cavities. Filling a cavity is a simple and painless procedure that prevents further bacteria from causing damage to your child’s teeth.

Bonding

Cosmetic bonding is the process where we use tooth-colored materials to replace missing tooth structures or to augment defects such as chipped teeth, discolored teeth, or irregular spacing. This is a great option for children, because it allows for the teeth to continue maturing so that a permanent solution can be found.

Crowns

A crown is a covering that is placed over a damaged tooth in order to strengthen the tooth and to allow it to function normally again. Sometimes, metal crowns are recommended for baby teeth because the permanent teeth haven’t come in yet.

Space Maintainers

Space maintainers are applied when a child loses a baby tooth prematurely and they need to wait a while before their permanent tooth comes in. With this appliance, your child’s bite will be able to develop properly and the need for braces will be reduced.

Mouth Guards

Sports-related injuries such as losing or chipping teeth often mean time away from school and expensive medical bills. A well-fitted and comfortable mouthguard, if worn at practices and games, reduces the likelihood of any sort of serious dental injury.

Emergency Dental Treatment

If you have a life-threatening or severe dental injury, please call 911. Here at Sebastian Smiles, we can treat a variety of traumatic dental injuries such as teeth that have been chipped or knocked out entirely.
